Isaac Mizrahi = Thank you for the hard, cold truth. I appreciate all of the judges focusing on market appeal. I am tired of listening to people who have a "vision" that doesn't co-inside with the reality of the business that fashion is. Keep up the great work - I hope there will be a second season.
it's not a matter of isaac being mean or whatever...the man is obviously very talented but the show is garbage and should be cancelled. Period!
vOTE,VOTE? vote for who????what a waste of my time,(weeks watching fashion show ) reco should have his own show. his workmanship, the structure and elegance of his collection, this guy is too good not be recognized and i predict he will surpass ANYONE on the show.
Issac i think it is unfortunate that the audience is going to choose the winner. i have a feeling its going to be reco cause he is popular. he has been in the bottom 2 twice and has only won one or two of the challenges. anna should be the winner because she has won several mini challenges and 2 or 3 of the elimination challenges. nmaybe next year, the judges will make the decision. this winner is going to be picked on race and "likeability" not who is the most talented. think about making that change ok? let the judges decide.
your mom is so right. The show is a hit.
I watched with a jaded attitude because I am a major PR lover but You really put it over the top. As I have said before MORE ISSAC!
Hey judges
Take it easy on us poor midwestern types. It takes approximately 3 years for coastal trends to make it to the midwest (outside Chicago, anyway.)
When you were talking about "B girls" recently, I had no idea what you were talking about. However, I teach junior high (12-14 year olds) and no one has ever accused me of being hip, cool, trendy, or whatever.
So I asked my high school daughter. And her fashionista trend setter best friend.
Nope. Never heard of it.
I know designers have to be exposed to more pop culture than us peons, but you guys were just plain RUDE.
I don't care if they get MTV and VH1 in India. We don't all watch it. And that does NOT make us stupid.
Isaac --
I don't see you as mean -- rather, perhaps, direct and directive. I do appreciate your comments to the designers about not being "sizest". Hollywood, and the fashion industry, though certainly fun for the rest of us to peek into and to watch, do not represent "the real world" or "the real woman". I appreciate your perspective on this!
I never heard of a b-girl before. I teach in an Urban Ohio School District. I believe the b-girl clique would call themselves G or OG and tend to think of themselves as rap fans not breakdancing fans.
It may be that the breakdancing never caught on - I checked it out on Utube and the dancers looked like hookers or pole dancers. Students have worn the stunner shades and ball caps tend to be worn by the boys not the girls.
Isaac- loved you in Style and love you now! But...a) Kelly is ill-suited to be a fashion show co-host. She is so negative and has no real insight to bring to the table. She makes me turn the TV off! b) Your "designers" are not designers! Where are the talents? I want to see beautiful clothes! Not people fighting and backstabbing (I can watch Houseviwes if I want that). Project Runway has real designers that designs gorgeous clothes. Yes, some are eccentric, some are big personalities - but that comes second. Please change your co-host and get better contestants next season!!! And yes, I want to see wearable fashion!
I have huge respect for Isaac Mizrahi, and Fern Mallis. If I knew about hip hop, perhaps I would know about Kelly Rowland. She is undoubtedly a beautiful and well dressed woman...but I have no idea what her qualifications are for this.
Tonight, all four of the judges insisted that hip-hop is so pervasive in our culture that NO ONE could be un-aware of it. Really? wow. I am no one and so are most of my friends. It is possible to avoid watching MTV! OH, Yes!! it can be avoided. I have managed to avoid for it's entire history so far, and-God willing, I hope to continue in that. And as far as "disrespecting a culture" ? Are you kidding, Ms. Rowland...tell me that you are kidding. It is more than possible to be vaguely aware of hip hop without being able to replicate it. And "b-girl" had an entirely different meaning in the past-perhaps 50 is to old to understand real clothes for real women. Jump on Angel because she cannot seem to judge her time. Jump on her because she makes clothes that are more mainstream than cutting edge. But to tell her she dis-respects a "culture" that superficially seems to be about disrespecting other types of dance choices of lifestyle. That is a bit of an affront to real people who really don't know enough about hip hop to create any. In New York state. Who read, watch the news, watch movies listen to music. And don't know from hip hop except a dance or so on "So You Think You Can Dance" and some kind of tween aimed movies.
Finally. Daniella is a whiner who is just as proud of what she does as Reco is, but with less cause. Her totally sizist remarks about her 'real size' model were hateful. Reco is not mean to her or Barbie Haven. Haven is just stupid enough not to listen to what she is told and also to believe Johnny. Reco is honest, skilled and passionate about what he does. Real designers understand the construction of a garment. You must, in order to mold a shape, to make a line. The fabric choice and knowledge of construction are NECESSARY. And most of them might consider ironing the clothes they make. A well constructed, well pressed garment is always going to look better than unpressed, under contstructed puckers. Step it up, Fashion Show! You will never catch up to Project Runway with most of this group.
You guys will be crazy to get rid of Reco. He is so funny and over the top. A reality star is born. He needs his own show. I crack-up even when watching previews of the show with him in them.
Isaac,
I don't think your mean.
I have not been watching the show because majority of designers are just absolutley horrible. This is a fashion show and very difficult to watch, because the lack of skill that these people have. Is this a joke? You sent away when of your best tailors at the beginning of the show and thats when I just couldn't watch anymore. I can not stand Daniell's (whiny complaining attitude) or that other guy (harem pant) horrible horrible.
Good luck!
Isaac...first I would like to say you are GREAT!! I have bought your clothing lines through different stores for years and they seem to fit me the best. I am 5'6" and about 100 pounds. I have a very hard time finding any pants that fit me on the waist and still have enough length to actully reach my shoes. I look like I am waiting for a flood if they fit me in the waist and look like I have sand in my pants if they are long enough to not look like capri's. :) I know larger girls need style, but so do we little girls. I am 30 yeras old and very much love fashion. How can a girl be fashionable when she can't find anything that doesnt look childish or frumpy. Please take into consideration the tall skinny minnies like myself. I cry in the dressing rooms too. Thanks for listening and hopefully I will see some classy beautiful clothes made for girls just like me!!
By the way.....why do we never see any of Haven designs on the web?
Mikhail and Fern, your awesome and add alot to the show. Kelly, honey," you are hanging by a thread" (have we not heard this before?)
I have to agree with the many comments on the quality of the designs coming down the runway. Perhaps it's unfair to compare ya'll to that "other" show...but having watched that show for many seasons, I'm used to viewing crisp details and finished designs. I hope this show improves the quality next time...but as right now, I'm not buying it...
Issac,
Come on Designer let's be honest for one minute...Your co-host is a MESS. Sure she may be cute on a level but please her knowledge of Fashion and (i guess) insight/comments? Girl if there is a second season you have to find a replacement because all the people I know in the creative field for a certain Fashion house think she NEEDS to go. She's bringing down your show.
Hope there is a second season........?
Isaac, I love your style and I agree with your philosphy. You are not being mean, just truthful with the contestants. My gosh, they are working in an industry that is judged and critized all the time. I love you and I love the show. I like that the show is not a cookie cutter of the Runway show. Keep on designing for the regular gal and I will be in 7th heaven.
Isaac,
If I had to assign a negative adjective to you, it wouldn't be mean. I'd say you're much more pompous than mean. You and Kelly appear to be there strictly as stand offish judges, with no constructive input. I absolutely hate the part of the show where you go behind the scenes and denigrade the work. Have you ever watched 'Runway'? The leader on that show actually doles out a bit of constructive comment as the designers prepare their work. He also doesn't seem to be filled with delight when someone falls short, which is how you and Kelly come across. And speaking of Kelly, why exactly is she on this show?
Don't get me wrong, I like the show overall, but I do question the capabilities of Kelly and some of the selections that have made it to the winner's circle. Daniella and Reco are by far the standouts, but it would be nice if there was a little more comaraderie instilled from the leader's end, as well as at least the appearance that you guys actually give a flip about these contestants.
Hey Issac,
First off you are a fabulous and the best judge! I think its time for you judgers to start getting meaner and tougher. I think people need to be criticized harsher and be told the truth from you.
Reco is definitely this season's most talented, innovative, and inspired designer.
What is Kelly Roland doing on the show? She's useless, and really ads nothing of value to the evaluations. Fern and Issac do a good job.
I agree that it's better to fail big than to do something blah. I also beleive the designers should try to come up with something original.
My problem with Merlin's brown dress was not just that it was hideous, but that it was a total rip-off of Jerrell's tweed evening gown on last season's Project Runway's avant garde challenge. I thought Jerrell's dress looked like what Sherlock Holmes would wear to come out, but at least it was original and not totally ugly.
Copying a bad idea and making it uglier is not daring anything, in my opinion. Merlin should have gone home.
Isaac you couldn't be mean, I think you are a cuddly soft puppy dog. I am glad a person of your character has a show on Bravo. I think your audience will learn a lot from you, keep up the great show. Isaac how do you deal with Merlin, he's a hot mess.
OK this has been bugging me this show is about aspiring fasjion desighners right? because i SWEAR I saw that Merlin guy on the Janice Dickinson modeling show and he was some flamboint catour desighner who had a VERY radical walk he wanted his models to do and walked around with a wip sooo....then why is he on the show or does he just have a twin?????? :S
Thank you Isaac for calling out Daniella for being "sizist". I wish you had address it to all the designers though. I was horrified by the comments I heard this week by the designers. If I could call one out it would be James-Paul; this is what I would say: "I am a real woman, who has a real life and real children, therefore I have a real body it does NOT make me Satan just as holding a pair of scissors does NOT make you Jesus Christ...NOR does it make you a designer!" Keep telling them like it is, Isaac, we need more "mean" people like you. Love the show!
Hi Isaac,
I'm so happy to see you on TV again! I used to watch your show on Style. I think you are the cutest thing ever! So far I like the show. My only complaint is Kelly. She is an amazing music artist, but seems out of place and ill-suited for this show. If you had a co-host who worked in fashion it would be better.
Isaac,
I love the show and I love you and Kelly and Fern. This show's dynamic is fabulous, streamlined and the final runway is the best. I don't think you are mean at all ( I don't want to mention the mean people in other shows). You always seem very tactful and professional. That is one of the things I like best about "this" (can't use Italics in the comments) show.
One thing I don't love and it is probably too late, I imagine all the episodes are already taped, is the hair. What's up with the model's hairstyles? It is pretty bad. The model that Merlin had last week, in the shoe episode, was supposed to look like Farrah Fawcett. She had the flattest hair (and excess blue eyeshadow) I've seen in a fashion show, except for this week. Everybody seemed to have a bad hair day. What did they have ten minutes to do the hair? The hairdressers would have been kicked out by Tabitha or Jonathan or any of the judges in the Hair Shows. I hope there's time to fix it.
Love the show!
I think it is time to weigh in on the judges. It is obvious that you are voting for the designer instead of the fashion. And you did the same last week! This week the brown outfit and the purple outfit were complete disasters! Hideous! The loosing red outfit wasn't to great for certain...but, I would rather be caught out in the red one than the brown or the purple. Neither of those two outfits had ANYTHING going for them....but, you obviously wanted the two designers to stay, right? Please if it isn't too late really look at the product and not the designers. Yes, we all know some designers add spice with their personalities...but, please this show is about fashion. I swear my 15 year old granddaughter could have done better than those two works. Dana
I really love you and Kelly as host! I wish she would blog too. I LOVE this show. I liked Project Runway, but the live audience takes it up a notch!
As a 57-year-old gay man, I would just like to say your show is such a "Project Runway" ripoff and such a poor one at that. "Runway" offers the professionalism of Tim Gunn(who is gay, but doesn't try to rub everyone's nose in it) and the sparkling Heidi. Plus their contestants are people chosen for their talent not their eccentricities. In every show Angel has not been ready and holds everyone up at runway trying to hem everything she puts out. And yet, you send Keith home when his simple little red dress fails to make his model look like a Pig in a blanket (the freaky little Asian) and John Paul's outfit which made his model look like 300 miles of poor taste. And to top it all off, there's you setting gays back 100 years with by by darling or is that bi bi darling.`
Isaac: I love your clothing and have purchased several designs in the store. However, I am stunned at the poor quality of construction and design of all the contestants except Reco and Danielle. And the fabric selections - horrible, cheesy, ugly colors - that's half the problem, I think. The contestants should have at least gone to Singer Sewing School as children (as I did back in the 50s), but to admit he could not sew means Johnny is NOT a designer, for a designer must know how to construct his garment and how to size it...I'm disappointed at the low quality of outfits that walk that runway...embarrassing!
Reco, I sent this to Daniella and now I send it to you:
My comments never appear on Bravo, but I hope you know you and Reco are smoking and the best of the whole bunch.
You were right on point to select Angel, for she is always, always late and never finishes her work; she always has sloppy hems and sloppy lines of jumbled cloth for designs! At first I thought you would be snooty, but you are actually very talented and do excellent work. You are and Reco are waaaay advanced above those other characters.
Please get Fashion Show hosts to explain to the audience why they even allowed people like John (who says he has technicians to build from his "designs"/actually drawings, and Jean-Paul with his large swatches of unformed fabric (described as architectural, we are not stupid) in the contest - who don't know how to make patterns, don't know how to sew, and don't know how to iron the puckers out of the cheesy fabrics they choose for their clothes! I am stunned at the low quality of things that end up on that runway. I would be embarrassed if I were Kelly or Isaac! Most of those clothes the others have made, I would rip up and make rags to dust my furniture!
I think you and Reco should move over to Project Runway, where the people don't just draw pictures and call them designs - they know how to build the clothing, and they know how to select appropriate fabrics. Do they allow you all to go select fabric, or do you have to use some of the cheesy stuff we keep seeing on racks in a room?
It is horrible fabric, and Angel's 99c/yard dress was a prime example of cheap fabric with no substance. You do so great with selection of fabrics! I am a size 18, and I love your black and navy ensemble tonight - just a senior citizen, though, without the funds at this time...maybe at the end of the month.
God bless you and WIN!!!!!!!
